Artist's Description
The door to the Roman Gateway or I should say the Northern Gateway to Rome. It is a part of the ancient Aurelian walls. In ancient times and now, travelers pass through the doors of these ancient walls and capture their first glimpse of a part Rome, a beautiful city, When entering through the doorway the Piazza del Popolo called the "People's Square" is what will be seen. It's a flat, wide-open space that was used for events, including executions up until the 1800's. The square has a trident (3 streets that come to one intersection) that lead into the center of Rome. A few fountains, churches, and an obelisk in the middle of the square. Even the churches have beautiful displays of art. There is local artist that will sing or play music to add to the gorgeous atmosphere as you stroll and take in the city. I wish this door could tell the stories of its times.
